English Language

English is the most widely spoken language in the world. It is an official language of more than 50 countries and has over 400 million native speakers. English is also one of the six official languages of the United Nations.

English is a West Germanic language that originated in England and was brought to America by settlers from England, Ireland and Scotland. The first dictionary was written in 1604, which had words from all three cultures that spoke it at that time – English, Scottish and Welsh.

The history of English can be traced back to the 6th century AD when it originated as a dialect among Anglo-Saxon tribes around the North Sea coast in what are now parts of Denmark and Germany.
